St. Kieran Church has many opportunities for people to participate in the Music Ministry. Rehearsals and Masses begin in the fall and continue through the spring. Consider joining one of these choirs! |
Fall is quickly approaching and that means the beginning of a new musical year for our church. Adult choir rehearsals begin on Wednesday, September 8 for the 2010/2011 church year.
The adult choir will be serving in two forms now: as a Liturgical Choir (choir that sings at mass) and a Concert Choir. You can be in both if you would like but if you do not have time to sing every week, please still consider being a part of the Concert Choir. Wednesday night rehearsals, which will begin at 7:30 pm, will be used to practice for both Sunday liturgies as well as the Christmas concert.
With a parish of nearly 3000 families I know that there are a lot of good voices out there. This your chance to join our growing ministry.
There are also singers out there who used to be a part of music ministry at St. Kieran but at some point decided they did not want to or could not continue in the ministry. Please consider coming back to the ministry now and be a part of the celebration and the exciting rejuvenation in music.
Joining the choir is easier than you think. We will have a no-obligation rehearsal with a “meet & greet” on Wednesday, September 8 @ 7:30. This is your chance to listen to and sing the exciting new concert music as well as meet members of the choir. If you like what you see (and hear) we’d love to have you stay. If you attend and decide it’s too much for you; no harm done. You don’t know unless you try!
Being a part of the choir does not require any experience in music, just a love of singing. When conducting choir rehearsals I teach you more than just the words and notes. You will learn about music terminology and how to read music through simple means. You get to experience the joy of singing with an education in music along the way.
Since my arrival at St. Kieran’s I have tried to bring new energy and life through music into the liturgy. With some new ideas of growth for the coming year, I believe we can continue to expand the capacity of the music ministry. With your voice added to the mix you are sharing your gift and helping to create music that will inspire others. Don’t miss this opportunity!
Last year this was known as the “teen choir,” but I did not believe that was an accurate representation of what this group should be. We are not going to work like a choir does in singing parts and learning choral repertoire. Instead, there will be a focus on contemporary music accompanied by a praise band. I came up with “SKY Beats” because I wanted to create a closer connection with our incredible SKY program and bridge the gap between our young people and the music. Please consider being a part of this exciting new group if you are in high school and enjoy singing! Our first rehearsal will be on Wednesday, September 22 from 6:15 – 7:00.

Kaleidocope is our children’s choir open to children in
2nd through 6th grade.
I hope to see a continued growth in the young peoples’ ensemble this year as we look to expose children to new upbeat music that they will want to sing. Many of the children of the parish got to work with me this summer at VBS and had a great time. If they enjoyed that music, please encourage them to try Kaleidoscope. The children will sing at mass approximately once a month and on Christmas Eve.
Rehearsals begin on
Wednesday, September 22 from 5:15 – 6:00.
All rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 5:15 – 6:00
The resurrection choir sings at funerals that take place at St. Kieran. As a singer in this group you provide a great shoulder of support to grieving families and show that the parish is here for them by singing at these resurrection masses. The resurrection choir may also sing for special masses and Holy days.
The choir rehearses on Tuesdays from 11:45 – 12:30.
The first rehearsal will be on
Tuesday, September 7 from 11:45 – 12:30
St. Kieran has a mass on Saturday's at 4:30 featuring contemporary music led by Matt and the contemporary ensemble which currently consists of drums, four guitars (not all at once), and vocalists.
The contemporary ensemble rehearses on Monday nights at 7:45 pm.
We are currently looking for a bass player for the group who can read music well. Please contact Matt if you are interested.Cantoring is the ministry of vocally leading the music at a given mass. Anyone can be a cantor from high school and up.
